All Youngsters Win in Southport Race

The Pequot Running Club will sponsor a pie race for children Sunday morning at the Wakeman Boys Club following its weekly club fun run. The theme is "everybody wins," as pie will be given to every finisher.

Children 4 through 14 may enter, but only if a parent or guardian accompanies them to sign a release form. Four and 5 year olds will run a four-tenths of a mile course, 6 through 8 year olds will run a one mile course, and 9 through 14 year olds will run the club's 2.8 mile fun run course. There is no entry fee and registration will be conducted starting 8:30 a.m. at the Wakeman Boys Club, Center Street, Southport.

Packer Wilbur, who is donating the 200 pies, said he got the idea from the Bemis Pie Race run every year at his old prep school, Northfield-Mt. Hermon School in northern Massachusetts, the oldest continuing road race in the country.

The three races will start at 9:30 a.m. and be run separately.

Assisting the running club are the Wakeman Boys Club, the Fairfield YMCA, the Police and Fire departments and the Fairfield Recreation Department.
